Mapping individual needs: tools for practical social work

The course focuses on developing the skills needed to identify and understand the individual needs and preferences of people with disabilities. You will be introduced to the basic principles and concepts of needs mapping and learn practical procedures for structured mapping of the support needs and preferences of the people you work with. The course includes practice in conducting interviews to identify needs and preferences and practical use of the information gathered to plan and deliver effective support.

For whom the course is intended

The course is designed for professionals in social services as well as for social workers in municipal offices and other workplaces where social assistance and support is provided.

The course will connect the theoretical requirements of needs mapping with the practical application of the selected tools. By completing the course you will gain:

  • Understanding of basic concepts and principles in the area of mapping individual needs and preferences.
  • Tools for structured mapping of support needs and preferences and experience of their practical use.
  • Skills needed to conduct an interview focused on mapping people’s needs and preferences.
  • Ability to use the information gathered about people’s needs and preferences in planning and delivering support.

You will also take away learning materials, smart templates for practical use and links to other study materials.

  • Basic concepts, principles and approaches in needs mapping.
  • Tools for mapping needs and preferences.
  • Practical mapping of support needs and preferences in model situations.
  • Practical application of the information obtained for planning assistance and support.

Scope and form of training, number of participants

The course is held in full-time form in the scope of 8 teaching hours in one day.

The maximum number of participants is 18.
